I’ve always been a dreamer. When I was a little girl, I dreamed of doing all the things when I was older. I wanted to be a dolphin trainer, a teacher, a veterinarian, a dentist, a realtor… the list goes on. In highschool, I thought long and hard about what I wanted to be. I actually went to see career counselors before I went off to college because I lacked clarity in what jobs existed out there. As a freshman in college, I decided on becoming a Speech Pathologist… until I realized how much science was required to become a Speech Pathologist. And let me tell you, science was NOT my forte (still isn’t). I reluctantly changed majors, feeling a little defeated and incredibly confused about which major to choose next.
I landed on choosing a major in Communications, thinking a broad major would benefit me after graduation. I had a couple internships in college but didn’t really *love* any job I tried. Until I became an ambassador for my college’s admissions office – that’s when I found a job I really loved. Telling campus visitors the reasons why I loved my college was something I could get behind! My senior year of college, a position opened up in the admissions office and I was determined to land the job.

Fast-forward to a month after my college graduation, I found out I didn’t get that job I so badly had wanted… and honestly, had planned on getting. I was hurt, confused, and a little intimidated about the job search I had ahead of me. Graduating college and feeling confused was not the ideal scenario I had in mind.
So what did I do? I desperately applied to jobs! I was willing to accept the first job offer I received because I really needed a job. I landed a job as a high school career counselor for a private company in Grand Rapids, Michigan (where I went to college). The job was great… for about a week. I quickly realized I would not want to spend a long time with the company (for many reasons… I’ll save that story for another day!). The year after my graduation was more confusing and challenging than I had envisioned my post-college years going. I always envisioned loving my first job, thriving at work, and climbing the corporate ladder. My post-college years were supposed to be full of hard work, and lots of fun times with friends. While many aspects of that year were great, it was hard… so much so that I wrote a blog post with my advice for recent college graduates. Check it out!
Anyways… back to my first year out of college and working this job I hated. I began applying for jobs, but I had no idea what I wanted. I got email rejection after email rejection and wound up frustrated and hopeless. I started researching graduate programs, hoping a Master’s degree would help me narrow down my career path. I got into a master’s program for Higher Education & Student Development, and to be honest – I didn’t know exactly what I wanted to do with said Master’s degree, I just knew God wanted me to walk through that door. So I went for it.
A year into my Master’s program, I got an internship with Butler University’s career center, and served as a career counselor for a summer. I instantly fell in love. As someone who felt directionless in college, I found so much meaning in helping students discern their strengths and align their career paths and goals.

After graduation from my Master’s program, I landed a job at Purdue University’s career center, where I helped hundreds of students and alumni navigate their own career paths. Safe to stay – I loved this job and learned so much about how to help others achieve their goals. I loved it so much, I knew I wanted to help people outside of college. People like me, who were graduated, confused, and with nowhere to go for help. So I started Lauren Carter Miller Coaching and started helping people in a variety of stages in life. I’ve been loving it ever since!
That’s a really quick snapshot of my story and the why behind what I do. I strongly believe each person on this earth has a unique set of gifts and talents to use for God’s kingdom. I love helping people discern their strengths, interests, and career goals. Oh, and helping you get that job after you figure out what the heck you want!
My clients have landed jobs at Bath & Body Works, Spanx, Ritz Charles Event Planning, StitchFix, Certified Angus Beef, and more!
