There are few things in life more frustrating than applying for jobs and getting nowhere in your job search. Luckily, there are many solutions to start making your phone ring. Before we dive into those solutions, it’s important to identify where your job search is going wrong. Here are some of the top reasons where I see job seekers get stuck in their job search:
- Confetti method (applying for ALL the jobs out there, 0 strategy)
- Only relying on your resume to get you a job
- Getting interviews but struggle to communicate value
- Not looking for the right job titles
- Not looking for the right companies
- Lack of confidence
- Lack of consistency in the job search
- Applying to the wrong jobs
Can you relate with any of these scenarios? Take the “Confetti Method” for example (I made that phrase up!)… this is when you are desperate for a job, so you apply to literally any job you can find online. You aren’t applying any strategy to the job search, and if you land a first-round interview, you scratch your head when the recruiter asks you “so, why are you interested in this position?”

While I’d love to address a solution to each job search “problem” above, that’s where 1:1 coaching really comes into play. Each job seeker is unique and requires a unique strategy for the job search! For now, let’s discuss three of the top recommended job search strategies for candidates in 2021.
1. Get Clear
Before you can start applying for jobs and chasing after a company, you need to know where you are going and what you want! My career clarity program helps professionals define and align their career path. This step will save you time from applying to the wrong jobs, and you can feel confident you are applying for the right jobs. 2. Shift Your Mindset
Many job seekers struggle with confidence. Why? Because most people looking for jobs have been beat down by their current role, or they simply have forgotten about the value they have to offer a company. It’s important to get crystal clear on the value you have to offer a company and believe you are worth an amazing job. A recruiter can tell when someone believes in themselves.
3. Network
You’ve heard it before: who you know matters. I would highly recommend to any job seeker to prioritize networking over applying for jobs. If you need some advice on how to network, check out my Networking Guide here!
