In my career counseling practice I utilize the Strong Interest Inventory® to help students learn more about their interests, work preferences, and possible career paths. This assessment gives students specific career suggestions based on your unique career personality. Many of my clients are shocked by the accuracy of their test results and leave the meeting with a list of careers they hadn’t considered before. Sound too good to be true? What is the Strong Interest Inventory®?

 The Strong Interest Inventory® provides robust insight into a person’s interests, so you can help them to consider potential careers, educational paths, and the world of work. This assessment is backed by more than 80 years of research and has helped thousands, if not millions, find careers that align with their interests.

How does it work?

The Strong Interest Inventory® helps students discover their work personality by exploring their interests in six broad areas: realistic, artistic, investigative, social, enterprising, and conventional.

Students will receive a list of specific career suggestions, along with college majors to align with the career suggestions. Additionally, the assessment provides suggestions for clubs and activities to get involved in college based on the student’s interests and career results. 

After a client and I unpack their Strong Interest Inventory® results, I give them a homework assignment to do some research on their career outcomes. Using a database full of thousands of careers, students can learn about the pros and cons of their specific career suggestions. During our final call, we discuss their homework and align secondary education options to support their career plans.
